Movie gear is FUN!
One of the best parts of learning to make a film is getting to play with the gear, and we have LOTS of gear to play with. Follow the link to see a full review of all the fun stuff we will be working with on this shoot.
Cameras and Lens
Sony NX5UThis is a great camcorder to work with on big projects. It records straight to MiniSD cards which will allow us fast turn around on post production work. The camera has two batteries and 128GB worth of storage. This beast can run for 3 hours in one go. A simple battery change will have us rolling for another three hours. Let's hope that we don't have any takes that go that long. The camera has a build in mic, and a shotgun mic that can be used off of the camera with a boom if needed.
Canon 5D Mark II
DSLRs are amazing cameras for capturing that tight depth of field. The Canon 5D has a full frame sensor that makes it very useful in low light conditions. It's a professional level camera in every sense of the word. The interchangeable lens means that it is a work horse that can give us exactly the look we want with minimal fuss.
Canon 85mm 2.8
This is a go to lens with perfect color and image capture. Because of the large apature, we can get really great depth of field form our scenes when we need it. This is a prime lens, meaning it will not zoom. We've been exceedingly happy with this lens, and I'm sure it will serve us will on our shoots.
Canon 50mm 2.8
The smaller the number, the wider the view. This is a great lens for when you need that wide shot, but a very shallow depth of field. While not as beautiful as the 85mm, this may allow us to get those shot we want in tight spaces like a bathroom.
Canon 70-200mm 2.8 Zoom
This bad boy is the mother of all Canon zoom lenses. The zoom is incredible thanks to a huge number of moving parts inside the can. Another cool fact is that it stays at a 2.8 apature throughout the entire zoom range or 70mm to 200mm. This is an expensive lens, and we will only be using it in secure settings, but the images we get from it will be best in class.
Canon 100mm 2.8 Macro
This lens is seldom used, but when it is needed, there is nothing like it. A Macro lens allows the camera to get extremely tight shots, like when you want to show the weave in a fabric, or all the detail in the leaf of a plant.
Camera Support
Manfrotto Carbon Fiber Tripod
This is a very stable tripod that is also super light weight. The tripod is fitted with a Manfrotto fluid head that makes it easy to pan and tilt the camera smoothly
Manfrotto Aluminum Tripod
This is a beefy, heavy, sturdy, tripod that will give us get very solid base for works.
Glidecam HD-4000
Want a smooth shot that travels with your actors? There are few better options than a glidecam/steadycam. While the camera is mounted on this device, it's almost too easy to capture your scene as you walk around.

Arm Brace for Glidecam
Why would we put an arm brace in the list? Because the Glidecam weighs five pounds. The camera also weighs five pounds. That's 10 to 12 pounds on your wrist. But that's not all, when you are using the glide cam, you can't just hold it next to your body. You have to hold it far enough out so that your legs don't bump it! What to know what that's like? Go grab a full gallon of milk, and hold it at least 15 inches from your body...
Lighting and Supplies
Cowboy Studio 3 point lighting rig
These soft boxes are filled with up to 5 compact florescent lights. They are great for lighting the actors for a shot. They are very light weight, and very inexpensive. Set up is pretty simple once you know what you're doing.
Workshop Lights
The great thing about these lights, aside from costing under $20 each, is that they are so versatile. These can easily be used for support lighting of the set. We have two of these, and they are both filled with halogen lights.
Lighting Gels
These work well with the workshop lights to cast a nice defused lighting on objects in the foreground or the background.
Reflectors
This is a very versatile set of reflectors for 'bounce back' light that will allow us to reduce shadows on our actors.
Laser Show
This high power red/blue laser unit casts a pretty cool light show
Sound
Zoom H4n
This workhorse of a very powerful sound recording device. It's easy to travel with, and allows for hours of digital recording. On screen displays and a monitoring port allow the sound crew to easily understand what they are collecting.
Extras
1000w Fog Machine
This little jewel can make a party scene really feel like a party scene!
There may be more gear to list, but there are the devices we have available right now.

My wish list.
